This post meant a lot to me. It might seem like a funny reason, but this song was on replay for literally a week straight before I made this post. Finding Monophonics back in 2022 was such a great thing for me. Thier song "Last One Standing" got me through a very hard time in my life. That song has a very apparent message, in terms of self-reliance and perseverance, whereas this song is almost the opposite. The idea of finding love and diving into it while knowing that there are no guarantees in that game... it spoke to me. This was a compilation post. The days were different, spanning over months, places and times of day.... some from NYC, some from SF.

4th and Market, I hadn’t seen anything I felt compelled to take a photo of in a few minutes. When I see this woman and her child coming through the intersection. I snapped a couple of photos, when I looked back at the photos, I noticed that this shot had a sliver of her friends face in the background. I liked that. The son also poked his head up for the shot.

Quick snapshot of this grandfather with his grandkids, this was on the walk to 4th and Market, I can tell from the timestamp. Taken right before the last photo. Nothing super crazy about the way I composed this one, the woman walking across the street was a nice juxtaposition to the three in the foreground, that’s about it.

This was taken at El Rio back in the summer of 2022. I remember being super happy to be out and taking photos of a live show. I kind of bounced around the back patio just shooting a bunch of photos like I was hired to be there. I went alone, didn’t know anyone. I shot for about 2 hours and then dipped out afterwards, I think this weekend I had a hotel for myself. Weird time! I wore a black hoodie the whole show and when I got back to my room my white tee was soaked. What a guy. When I reviewed the photo, I saw the expression on this woman’s face, along with the smoke trails and that’s what made me edit this photo. I was shooting wide open with a 50mm, which is wild. I was shooting everything wide open back then.

The second photo was at the end of the show and they were taking group photos. Like I said, I was just acting like I was hired to take photos. This was one of my favorites. This was the guy to the left of the dude in the bulls jerseys last show in the area before he moved to London and everyone was showing him so much love.

This was over on haight street, I was walking down towards market, when I drive to the city I usually park over near molotovs on haight and walk down. I had just taken out my camera and was fumbling around with it and noticed this herd of bike riders about to go up this hill, I didn’t get the shot that I wanted, but I did manage to snap one and get this shot. I did like that there’s one guy going opposite of the pack, that was a big part of my decision to edit and post this.

Day after cinco de mayo, 2023, it does seem like such a long time ago but it’s only been like a year. I was focusing a lot of video back then, and was shooting micro 4/3. I was using a manual lens for a lot of that video stuff and I had put on this lumix lens to take some photos. Manual focus was hard to use when shooting street. This was actually shot vertically and this is a crop. I felt like a got a lot in the bottom half of the frame. People standing, looking around and then the cars synced up the way that they are.

The homie Jason! Taken by the homie Nate. This was over at noc noc on haight. I miss this lens. I sold it and regret it all the time now that im using the canon system again. I was out in the city for the weekend and linked up with the homies. Nate came from work and Jason met me on haight from his place in the sunset. We had a few drinks. I think we actually had wine lol. Good pic of us. Been homies since 6th grade back in Soledad.

Damn. I miss this 28mm.

This was my first day in NYC. This was a week long trip to visit my little brother and his husband. They’re out in Germany and we basically met halfway to hang out in NYC together. We had just went and had hot pot and were walking back to the airbnb. Saw this parking lot. I shot this very underexposed and edited it afterwards. I shoot most things under closed but I was blasting my ISO and didn’t want to wash everything out.

This shot, it’s also a vertical shot, but cropped to fit the rest of the set. I wish I would have shot this at f/8, two guys on thier phones, passing each other by. Something we alllllll do when walking the streets of a city. The woman in the back, alone. The graffiti. I love NYC.

This was a great night for me. I left the family alone, went out to Brooklyn all day. I spent like 2 hours drinking at some college bar and then walked around using my flash. I got back on the train and headed towards time square. I got off near NYU and ended up walking towards midtown. I got home at about 1am. I wish I would have used more flash on this trip.
